Position Summary

Washington Conservation Action is seeking an enterprising Events and Outreach Associate to lead outreach events and support our fundraising and donor stewardship efforts. Our goals are to raise greater awareness, and support for, our work while inspiring our community to address Washington’s most pressing environmental challenges. The Associate is a member of the Development (fundraising) team, plays a key role in the stewardship of our donors and will be responsible for supporting our signature gala, other in-person cultivation events, and virtual stewardship events. This role also supports events that engage activists and supporters around our work.

Washington Conservation Action is a statewide environmental advocacy organization that advances environmental policies and pushes for actions that equitably address climate pollution, restore Puget Sound, sustain our state’s forests, and protect our democracy. For Washington to remain a national leader on environmental issues, we need environmental champions in elected office and to hold our leaders accountable. Washington Conservation Action is based in a LEED-certified building in downtown Seattle with a view of Elliott Bay. Our team of nearly 40 works in a flexible hybrid model, with staff in the office two days a week for collaboration and celebration. Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and execute WCA’s fundraising and outreach events which aim to deepen relationships with existing supporters and introduce new supporters to our work in a variety of engaging ways.
  • For each event, the Events Associate will:
    • use project management skills to develop and manage event timelines, action plans, budget and systems (including virtual platforms).
    • use communications skills to craft engaging and inspiring programs, communications and designs. 
    • use creativity and think outside the box in relationship to event design and production and in developing compelling and inclusive programs which advance our environmental justice goals.
    • work collaboratively across the organization to build event audiences. 
    • negotiate contracts with vendors, venues, caterers, speakers; manage the registration and thank you processes and reconcile finances.
  • Create and implement new outreach events and activities designed to increase our presence in communities and connect with folks in new and different ways. 
  • Embed Racial Equity and Environmental Justice principles in daily work and participate in an internal racial equity team.

Required Skills & Experience

  • A strong commitment to racial equity, environmental justice, and anti-racism.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including experience in event planning or managing other projects that involve multiple elements and stakeholders (i.e., board members, other staff/teams, vendors, speakers). (Volunteer and internship experience is applicable.)
  • Experience using a Constituent Relationship Management system, Salesforce preferred. (Volunteer and internship experience is applicable.)
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills 
  • Ability to efficiently organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines, and remain flexible under pressure.
  • Ability to drive work forward independently and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, while working across teams and at all levels of the organization. 
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and Google Suite applications.

Desirable Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience using event management software and/or virtual event platforms.
  • Experience working with or on a fundraising team (as staff or intern).
  • Prior experience in retail, the service industry, or other public facing role.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full time, exempt position with a salary range of $50,000 to $54,000 depending on experience. Location Information

This position is hybrid with a required minimum of two days a week (40% time) in the Seattle office. We anticipate this job will involve occasional paid travel to in-person organizational events and staff gatherings at the discretion of the supervisor.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This is a full-time position and is expected to work a standard work week of 40 hours. Some weeks may
require additional hours to meet deadlines. This job requires frequent sitting. Must be able to conduct business in English, though fluency in other languages is welcomed. For remote work, employees must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work during scheduled work hours. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with different abilities to perform functions essential to the duties of the position.

COVID-19

The organization follows all requirements of local health authorities. We are currently working in hybrid remote work model with staff working from home in addition to in-office time for collaboration and celebration. We maintain strict safety protocols while in our office. All staff who come to the office must be immunized against COVID-19.
