As many of you know, both Washington Environmental Council and Washington Conservation Voters have been working closely together for years. As both organizations grow, we are working to set ourselves up to continue a strong partnership in the future and are changing our structure to build a team that’s prepared for the years ahead.
In the past, both WEC and WCV shared staff across our two organizations, except for our Presidents. To more closely collaborate across our teams, we are dissolving that structure and creating two new positions: a Chief Policy Officer and a Chief Campaigns Officer. Those positions will be filled by our same longtime staff: Lisa Remlinger and Shannon Murphy! Whether you are a WEC or WCV member, or have supported both organizations’ work, you may not have met Lisa or Shannon. So we wanted to give you a chance to get to know them better and hear what they will be bringing to their new roles.
Lisa Remlinger is the Chief Policy Officer for Washington Environmental Council and Washington Conservation Voters. Lisa oversees all policy teams including Climate, Forests, and Puget Sound. Some of Lisa’s notable work for WEC and WCV includes the creation of our annual Carbon Friendly Forestry Conference, State of Our Public Lands Report Card, and the Nisqually Carbon Project. Lisa has worked for non-profits most of her career because they are her happy place where she feels she can make a difference and work with others who want to do the same. Lisa has a Masters in Environmental Management from Duke University where she published work on public health, conservation, and development collaboration, as well as received a policy fellowship to work with the United Nations Environmental Program in Geneva. When not at work, Lisa is usually with her husband, son, and friends. She has also served on various boards including Wolf Haven International. Always up for a new challenge, Lisa has summited Mt. Rainier, coached long-distance running, swam across Lake Washington, and biked from Vancouver, B.C. to Portland, Oregon.
Shannon is the Chief Campaigns Officer for Washington Conservation Voters and Washington Environmental Council, and oversees the organizations’ political/civic engagement, government affairs, and field programs. She has over a decade of electoral and legislative campaign experience and has been with WCV and WEC since 2008, moving into her current position in 2014. Shannon has been a leader in building strategic partnerships with labor, environmental, business, and people of color-led organizations to advance electoral and environmental policy goals, most notably serving on the Governance Board for the Alliance for Jobs and Clean Energy. In addition, Shannon has helped grow WCV’s Political Action Committee (PAC) to one of the largest in the state. Before her current role, she managed WCV’s coordinated effort to first elect Governor Jay Inslee in 2012 and WCV’s nationally-recognized victory to elect an anti-coal majority to the Whatcom County Council in 2013. Shannon started her career as an organizer and brings that lens to her work today. Shannon has a bachelor’s degree from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. Raised in Oregon and now a Washingtonian for over 15 years, she loves the Pacific Northwest and exploring hiking trails with her family – husband Ben, her new baby daughter, and dog, Milo.
