PASSED! Move Ahead Washington — nearly $17 billion of transportation investment over 16 years. Move Ahead Washington is the most progressive transportation package Washington has ever passed. Why? Because it directs a shift in how transportation funding is funded and allocated. After more than 70 years of transportation focused on cars above all else, this transportation package includes:
- The largest slice investments in transit and multi-modal (bike, pedestrian, etc.) infrastructure
- The smallest level of investment in roads geared with an eye toward areas of greatest need (e.g., Columbia River Crossing, finishing some existing projects, etc.)
- Funds the court injunction for culvert removal to support Treaty Rights and the outcome of the US v. Washington decision
- Funds toxic stormwater reduction – going beyond permit requirements and reducing toxic water runoff from existing roads and infrastructure
- Funds toxic stormwater reduction – going beyond permit requirements and reducing toxic water runoff from existing roads and infrastructure
- Supports implementation of the HEAL Act
“State lawmakers heard us loud and clear that we need to address the largest source of climate pollution: transportation. So it is a watershed moment for our futures that the Legislature passed the Move Ahead Washington transportation package. That combined with an influx of desperately needed salmon funding signals that the legislature is taking our issues and futures seriously,” said Alyssa Macy, CEO, of Washington Conservation Action. “The climate crisis is already upon us and the legislature, once again, acted boldly for people and the environment. Of course there is so much more work to do, but this progress is the spring of hope we so desperately need at this moment.”
