Washington Conservation Action Launches ‘Call 4 Climate Action,’ Non-Partisan Voter Engagement Campaign. Goal of 50,000 new or infrequent voters to vote in the November 2024 election

WASHINGTON STATE (April 22, 2024)–Today, on the 54th Earth Day, Washington Conservation Action (WCA) launches an ambitious voter engagement campaign called, “Call 4 Climate Action.” From Earth Day 2024 to General Election Day, the goal is to get 50,000 disengaged or new voters to commit to vote in November 2024 because our state deserves 100% voter participation. This campaign is one small part of that effort to increase access and participation statewide.

“I’ve worked with Washington Conservation Action for almost a decade. This is our most ambitious project yet,” said Kat Holmes, field director for Washington Conservation Action. “It’s going to take a lot of us to get 50,000 more people to vote in November. But our health, our environment, and our futures depend on it. So, I hope you’ll join us!”

Many people who can vote in Washington just don’t. Last year, 2023, a record low of 36% of those registered voted in the General Election. In even years, when more people show up to vote for national offices, an average of just 74% vote. That’s not a lot when you consider that we vote by mail.

“So many brave women, Native citizens, Black people, and all people of color fought for the right to vote in the last 100 years. This is our right and our duty to each other and to the environment: Vote in every election,” said Joy Stanford, political and civic engagement director for Washington Conservation Action. “We’re committed to reaching out across the state to get more people to vote in 2024!”

Starting with a launch on Earth Day 2024, April 22, at 6 p.m., interested people can join a virtual event. More information available at www.call4climateaction.org

We are honored to live and work on the traditional and ancestral lands of the Nations whose current lands we call Washington. We recognize that borders are artificial—many tribal nations from the North, the South, and the East of present-day Washington also have historical and current ties to these lands.

We express our gratitude as guests and thank the original and current stewards of this land. What we experience today is a product of these nations’ ancestors’ ability to be in relationship with the natural world. We would not be here without their guardianship and connection to the earth.

We also acknowledge Black and African labor on which this country built its prosperity—we honor you.
