In response to the ongoing actions of the Trump administration and the Department of Homeland Security in Minnesota and across the country, Washington Conservation Action, as a member of the national League of Conservation Voters (LCV), issues the following statement:
“Our ability to make progress on clean energy and climate change depends on a strong democracy that upholds the rule of law, protects our First Amendment rights to freedom of speech and protest, and ensures free and fair elections.
Washington Conservation Action (WCA) consistently draws the connections between thriving democracy and a world in which people and nature thrive.
Pollution and climate change are forms of violence that result in illness, death, wildfires, droughts, extinctions, economic hardship, and more. WCA has always condemned violence. We condemn the Trump administration and various agencies within the Department of Homeland Security that are using violence in a campaign of terror against immigrant communities. This is most recently flaring in Minnesota, but no place in the United States is safe from this coordinated, growing threat to the rule of law that is the foundation of our democracy.
We stand with efforts to stop these abuses, including Congressional Democrats using their leverage over the Department of Homeland Security funding and to hold officials, including Secretary Kristi Noem, accountable for their reckless and unlawful actions.”
