Washington Environmental Council and Washington Conservation Voters are excited to announce our search for a new CEO. After more than 27 years at the helm of WEC and more than five as the CEO of both organizations, Joan Crooks has decided that it is time for change and will step down from her role as CEO at the end of the year.
We will miss her wisdom and her leadership immensely, although we look forward to continuing to know her as a friend and mentor. The future for our organizations will be exciting, thanks in no small part to the strong foundation Joan has built.
Moving forward, we are looking for an experienced leader committed to statewide environmental advocacy, racial equity, and social justice. Candidates must be driven and inspired to advance climate justice, expand WCV and WEC’s network of partners and allies, and build political strength for the environment. Interested candidates and other inquiries and referrals should contact Mr. Ed Rogan at Valtas Group: ed@valtasgroup.com.
The CEO position at WCV and WEC provides a unique and compelling professional opportunity for someone ready to tackle the pressing challenges of protecting our land, waters, and people.
In this most recent legislative session, our organizations secured cutting-edge climate laws that will move Washington to a clean energy economy while protecting workers and supporting low-income communities; protections for orcas and a healthier Puget Sound; and investments to clean up toxics and support rural communities. Our legislative policies set standards for environmental advocacy across the country, and we enjoy close working relationships with decision-makers who respect our advocacy for the environment and understand our commitment to social justice.
This is an exciting time for both organizations. We are deeply grateful to Joan for the leadership she has brought to the environmental community and the heart and soul she has poured into our organizations. As we work through this transition, Joan will continue to lead WCV and WEC policy and political efforts. We look forward to celebrating her legacy in the coming months, while also continuing our work, uninterrupted and stronger than ever.
