Nestled in the foothills of the Cascade mountains, just a short drive from Western Washington’s metropolitan core, are two pristine watersheds that provide drinking water for 1.4 million people: the Tolt and Cedar River Watersheds. Together, these watersheds span over 98,000 acres of land owned and carefully managed by Seattle Public Utilities to ensure a safe and reliable drinking water supply, and protect fish, wildlife, and their habitats.

These protected watersheds are rich in history, biodiversity, and natural beauty! You can experience these wonders firsthand by visiting the Cedar River Watershed Education Center. All ages and abilities are welcome to come and learn how water, wildlife, and humans intersect in the watershed. This watershed network is a reminder of the importance of our shared environment — efforts to conserve and protect our region’s natural resources and habitats help ensure a high quality of life for generations of people and wildlife to come.
